Ásgeir R. Helgason is an Icelandic scientist working at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. Since 2002 he has been an associate professor in psychology at the Departments of Oncology-Pathology and Public Health at the Karolinska Institutet and Reykjavik University, Iceland.
Asgeir R. Helgason and his collaborators are currently engaged in a number of projects in the fields of public health, social medicine and psychology.
We are conducting a project with focus on male patients and methods for communication between patients, significant others and health care personnel. Project leader in Sweden is Ásgeir R. Helgason and Dr. Bragi Skúlason heads the project in Iceland. The project, is called “Meeting men and their significant others in palliative cancer care”. Financed by the Kamprad Foundation.
Primary prevention of health risk behaviors in adolescents, including tobacco and alcohol use. Secondary prevention mainly focusing on smoking cessation programs including the Swedish National Quitline (Sluta-Röka-Linjen) and smoking cessation activities in primary health care and dentistry.
We are researching electronic screen use and its effect on somatic and neurological symptoms in children.
